One of our mottos at going to a good home is everybody deserves a fair go. Several clients we have helped as a charity have been ex offenders who have served time in prison and find themselves with the daunting task of setting up life from scratch back in the community. As anybody moving house knows it’s a stressfull and expensive job at the best of times for many of us, but put yourself in the position of someone just been released from prison who has nothing or indeed a homeless person in the same circumstance. Landlords often don’t want to know a homeless person or ex offender, so as well as helping with furnishings for a new home, Going to a good home has helped, in many circumstances negotiating a rental house or flat for our client. All these clients that we have helped have turned out to be among the nicest people we know and some helped us in return to help others, as once you’ve been there yourself you know how it is. Mr S as he prefers to be called was released in 2016 and helped by going to a good home, he is now a very successful self-employed builder and we owe him a big thanks for repairing the guttering and some of the roof on our very old and rickety warehouse.
Going to a good home is a charity and does not campaign much for cash donations our focus is furniture donation and we survive on the goodwill of our volunteers and trustees. Our local businesses and individuals that support us keep us going, just about on our very thin shoestring budget. As plans for expansion loom on the horizon we are however looking at new possibilities for fundraising.
