Training day was a great success at the going to good home warehouse premises. Industry professional Mark Ruge who runs a large furniture store in the area came with his leather technician Ian Tomlinson to show going to a good home volunteers how to re-condition sofas to a usable condition for us to donate to our clients who are in crisis or need.
Several techniques were demonstrated including colouring and reconditioning damaged leather, re-forming sagged seating frame repairing spring hanging and leg fixing.
Jason Crossley one of the volunteers said this lesson was fantastic not only for helping out with the charity but he has no some new aspirations for maybe learning the skills in further detail to helping back into employment at he is currently unemployed.
Nicola Johnson trustee of the charity said it is important that our volunteers after all the hard work that they donate for nothing receive something back from the charity and this excellent demonstration and lesson helps them to have further career prospects and possible new skills. After the success of the training day the charity is now looking to replicate this on a more regular basis.
