In a similar way to the clothing fashion industry, furniture goes through yearly updates and fashion changes. This is great for the furniture retail industry and fantastic for going to a good home charity. Our aim and focus as a charity is to support people in need or crisis by helping them to establish a home hence our name. Since we were set up over a year ago we have helped many individuals and families re-establish home and life in the community with donations of sofas and beds and where we can support for them to start a new positive life.
Another reason people discard the sofas is sometimes they may be slightly broken or worn in places. To them this may be a reason to get rid but for going to a good home it is an opportunity as we like to recondition sofas saving them from landfill and ultimately saving the environment. A reconditioned comfy sofa even if it is not the very latest designer offering will help somebody to be happy in their home and give them a sense of well-being.
Going to a good homes trustees Andrew, Nicola and Paul do not receive any money whatsoever from charity funds and it is the gratification of helping others that motivates them to do so much work for the charity.
After some very skilled negotiating by Nicola Johnson, a deal has been struck with a large furniture retailer who often take decent used sofas from their customers as they sell top of the range sofas. These would have a secondhand value so going to a good home charity is very grateful to the firm who also deliver it directly to our warehouse on Bridge Street Church.
