In 2016 after been touched by the plight of many Africans living in extreme poverty, for example still having the heart to take in survivors of the Ebola virus, Who had lost in many cases some or all of the family, The trustees of going to a good home property relief charity, diversified some of the charities resources towards helping.
After a heartfelt presentation by Adebayo Chukwumereije a missionary from Mali affected by Ebola cases from neighbouring guinea and the migration of virus refugees.
Adebayo Chukwumereije explained that things we take for granted in the west like furniture have to be hand crafted from scratch in Mali as shipping and communication it’s highly underdeveloped in this third world area. This appealed directly to the sentiment of going to a good home charity as we have always believed that one man’s trash is another mans treasure and in this case more then sentiment can communicate. Mali is celebrated for creating handcrafted furniture and local arts however in the wake of this crisis and on a need basis accommodation and items to create homes are now at a premium and many deprived families are going without,
Adebayo Chukwumereije liaises with many charities and international organisations involved in poverty and crisis relief and without going to a good home charity having experience or ability to export donated furniture and sofas, enabled a partnership with African missions to make this possible. Adebayo Provided a 40 foot shipping container to be delivered to our storage which we filled with sofas, essential beds and mattresses along with cabinet furniture donated by the public of East Lancashire and local businesses.
Although going to a good home charity does not have much in the way of a financial income stream we have very willing and hard-working trustees and volunteers, along with great partnerships and support from local firms which enable us to make the project Africa a success. We are currently receiving feedback from our donations which have travelled halfway across the world and will be posting some soon.
